  REVIEW:

Fantastic Four . . . or, as we like to call it, the Fantastic Three and that freakish buddy Thing!

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer has all our heroes back.  This time, Sue and Reed are to be married.  But since they are super heroes, the wedding keeps getting postponed to save the innocent and battle evil.  When finally their wedding is taking place, the most evil foe of all descends upon them.  The Silver Surfer has arrived.  He has come to earth to prepare it for its final destruction by a dark entity that is headed their way and will devour the entire planet.  Their plan to fight off the Silver Surfer doesn’t work well when they discover he’s virtually indestructible.   They must fight harder than they ever have before.  Some power swapping and help from an unlikely source may not be enough to save them.  They may have to be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the human race.

Rise of the Silver Surfer delivers pretty much as advertised.  Super-cool, superhero action, made phenomenal by super-cool, superhero special effects.  And the story is well-crafted in that everything that happens actually happens for a reason, and it all comes full-circle to a solid finish.  Granted, it’s still ridiculous comic book stuff that you could nitpick to death, but it’s lighthearted and positive enough that you don’t want to bother.  The only glaring shortcoming – the dialogue.  It’s too simple and mundane.  Each line uttered by a superhero should be inspiring, profound, or – best of all - witty.  This one instead lacks some of the bite of the first movie, but it’s still fantastic – or, at least, close enough.
